Ivymount Launches IvyMoves Month

Ivymount Launches IvyMoves Month
Posted on 01/04/2021

For the second year, Ivymount has kicked off the new year with a month of activities dedicated to its health initiative – IvyMoves.  First announced in 2019, the goal of IvyMoves is to foster health and fitness among students, their families, and staff. Led by the Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Adapted Physical Education team, Ivymount aims for students to get at least 30 minutes of exercise during the school day, plus additional movement opportunities outside of school. Physical activity increases heart rate, sending higher levels of oxygen to the brain, for improved mental clarity and increased ability to retain information.

The January 2021 goal is to log more than 1,000 hours of activity by having students, families, and staff track and report their exercise. In January 2020, Ivymount students smashed their step challenge goal, by walking, jogging and running 906,385 steps during school – more than covering the distance to walk through all the communities from which students attend Ivymount.
